MKT FPX 5410 Assessment 1 Marketing Mix Project for Spokin’ Wheels

Assessment Overview:

MKT FPX 5410 Assessment 1: focuses on crafting a marketing strategy for Spokin’ Wheels bicycle shop using the 7 P’s of marketing and the 5 S’s of digital marketing. The goal is to improve product promotion, customer engagement, online presence, and sales for both the existing and new store locations.

How to Pass MKT FPX 5410 Assessment 1 Marketing Mix Project for Spokin’ Wheels

  1. Understand the “Service” P’s: Since Spokin’ Wheels offers repairs and group rides, focus heavily on the extra 3 P’s (People, Process, and Physical Evidence). In a service business, these are often more important than the “Product” itself.
  1. Define “Physical Evidence” Digitally: In 2026, physical evidence isn’t just a flyer; it’s your website’s UI/UX. Explain how a professional, easy-to-navigate site gives customers “evidence” that your shop is high-quality.
  2. Link “Process” to Customer Retention: Describe the specific process for a repair—from the initial text notification to the final quality check. A smooth process reduces Customer Effort, which is a huge driver of loyalty.
  3. Leverage “Sizzle” through Community: For Spokin’ Wheels, “Sizzle” is the Sunday morning group ride. Use this to create Social Proof. When people see a group of 20 riders wearing your shop’s gear, that is the ultimate organic advertisement.
  4. Master the 5 S’s Framework: Be specific with your goals.
    • Sell: Don’t just say “sell more.” Suggest a goal like “Increase e-commerce accessory sales by 15% in Q3.”
  5. Analyze the “Price” Value Prop: Since you sell high-end bikes, you shouldn’t try to be the cheapest. Instead, explain how your price includes Value-Adds like a “free 30-day tune-up,” which justifies a premium price point.
  6. Identify the “Place” Advantage: With two locations, discuss Omnichannel Marketing. Explain how a customer can browse “Place A” (online) and pick up at “Place B” (the physical store).
  7. Evaluate “People” as Brand Ambassadors: Knowledgeable staff are your biggest asset. Mention that their “People” skill—giving expert advice without being “pushy”—is what prevents customers from just buying a cheaper bike on Amazon.
  8. Use “Save” for Efficiency: Explain how digital marketing “Saves” money compared to traditional radio or TV. Use Targeted Ads to ensure only local cyclists see your content, reducing “wasteful” ad spend.
  9. Connect “Speak” to Social Listening: “Speak” isn’t just about you talking; it’s about Two-Way Communication. Mention how you will use Instagram polls or Facebook comments to ask customers what new brands they want to see in the shop.

Sample Assessment:

Introduction

As one of the owners of Spokin’ Wheels bicycle shop, my main focus is on marketing strategies to promote our business. Effective marketing is essential for any business, especially as we work to bring in more customers to our new location, which has only been open for a few months. We want to showcase our products, which include new and used bicycles from major brands, repairs, a curated selection of bicycle accessories and clothing, and organized group rides on Sunday mornings.

Creating a successful marketing strategy can be challenging due to the many factors involved in designing an attractive campaign that attracts customers. Achieving success in business relies not just on targeting the right market or offering quality products, but also on effectively using marketing techniques to engage our audience and turn them into loyal customers.

The 7 P’s of Marketing

To start, Spokin’ Wheels needs to create a marketing strategy based on the 7 P’s of marketing, a model proposed by E. Jerome McCarthy in 1960 in his book, *Basic Marketing: A Managerial Approach* (Hanlon, 2019). The seven elements are product, price, promotion, place, physical evidence, process, and people. Since products, markets, customers, and needs change quickly, we must regularly revisit these elements to ensure we perform well in today’s competitive market (Tracy, 2004).

Element Description
Product Our product range includes new and used brand-name bicycles, accessories, and clothing. We also offer repair services and group rides. To effectively market our products, we need to showcase them through advertisements, maintaining an active presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. This approach will allow us to engage with clients and promote sales and promotions effectively.
Price The pricing strategy requires continuous assessment to ensure competitiveness in the current market. We need to be vigilant about adjusting prices in response to market changes. Since we offer high-end bicycles and accessories, it’s important to provide value through discounted repair services for customers who purchase from us. Digital marketing can also facilitate price promotions and advertisements.
Promotion Promotion encompasses all communication methods regarding our products and services. Effective strategies include social media posts, flyers in newspapers, radio ads, and potentially television commercials. Small adjustments in promotional strategies can lead to significant sales increases, so it’s crucial to stay adaptable in our marketing efforts.
Place Ensuring our locations are easily visible and welcoming is essential. Our new second location allows for a broader display of our products. Additionally, maintaining an updated website is vital for informing customers about stock availability and store hours. Direct outreach, such as distributing flyers, can also enhance local visibility.
People Our staff plays a crucial role in implementing marketing strategies. It’s vital to recruit enthusiastic and knowledgeable employees who provide excellent customer service without being overly pushy. Staff training should focus on product knowledge and adapting to marketing changes to effectively promote our offerings.
Process The customer service process directly impacts how our business is perceived. Addressing inquiries and complaints efficiently will enhance our reputation and encourage repeat business. Training staff to provide exceptional service and stay informed about new products will ensure a positive customer experience.
Physical Evidence This involves producing physical materials, such as flyers and brochures, that highlight our products and services, including group rides. Integrating these materials into our social media presence can increase visibility and customer engagement, promoting a cohesive brand image. The goal is to build a robust online presence that attracts both new and returning customers.

The 5 S’s of Digital Marketing

The 5 S’s of digital marketing provide a simple framework for setting top-level goals within an organization (Chaffey, 2019). The five components are sell, serve, speak, save, and sizzle. Each of these elements helps boost our online business presence, especially as the internet changes.

Element Description
Sell Establishing a strong online sales presence is essential. With two locations, we can facilitate online sales for delivery or in-store pickup, broadening our customer base. Implementing incentives, such as free delivery, will help increase sales and enhance customer satisfaction.

The customer experience should be paramount, emphasizing quick and efficient service. Recognizing potential customers and addressing their needs promptly will create a positive online interaction. Providing clear information and responsive support will contribute to overall customer satisfaction.

Speak Effective communication with both suppliers and customers is crucial. Listening to customer feedback and understanding their needs will enhance their experience with our business. Establishing multiple communication channels will facilitate better engagement and response to customer inquiries.
Save Digital marketing often reduces operational costs and time. Utilizing platforms like Facebook can minimize advertising expenses, and we plan to leverage both free and boosted ads to maximize our outreach.
Sizzle Building a strong brand presence online is critical. Social media plays a significant role in creating brand awareness. We will focus on creating engaging and interactive content to foster customer relationships, ultimately enhancing our market presence. Building brand loyalty is essential in today’s interconnected world, and social media is vital in achieving this (Meyer, 2017).
